Mayor Jim Robinson told councilmembers Jeff McCormick, Roger McMannis, BJ Meador and Karen Wenz that he attended the special Veterans Day luncheon and Veterans Room dedication at the Southwest Sublette Pioneers Senior Center in Marbleton on Nov. 10. There, he conversed with American Legion Dee Fox Post 78 Comm. Mack Rawhouser about the possibility of a special place set aside for veterans near the town park’s Encana Shelter. The mayor said they talked about possibly setting a large piece of military equipment. It could be a place where veterans could gather for observances and ceremonies in town rather than driving to the Big Piney Cemetery in adverse weather.

Ulrich said he opposed the monthly ad valorem payments legislation because he “felt it penalized (ad valorem) tax payers, unfair to those who paid on time.” In 2020, Jonah Energy and the county worked out repayment terms; Ulrich said Jonah has never missed a payment.

“The Upper Hoback River is a crown jewel of streams flowing out of the Wyoming Range. Collaborative stream bank projects, where all landowners contribute, are critical to the health and stability of the entire Snake River Headwaters,” said David Cernicek, Wild and Scenic River manager, Bridger-Teton National Forest.

Crews will be utilizing helicopter operations in the Stinking Springs area of Hoback Canyon to do some general maintenance and refueling of the avalanche infrastructure known as the O’Bellx units. These units use explosions to trigger smaller, controlled avalanches to prevent dangerous, uncontrolled conditions. The O’Bellx units are remotely operated by computer and are installed and removed by helicopter. The work will cause intermediate delays for traffic of up to 15 minutes at a time.

The winners of the Patriot’s Pen essay contest hosted by the Pinedale Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Auxiliary were recognized during the Pinedale Middle School Veterans Day assembly on Nov. 10.

As students progress through challenging courses in the career technical program in Big Piney, they can put their skills to work by competing in state and national SkillUSA competitions. The BPHS Welding Fabrication team won the State championship in 2023 and traveled to Nationals in Atlanta to compete.

Public meetings will be held in Rock Springs on Nov. 17 and Green River and Farson on Nov. 18. Organizers will provide an overview of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the RMP process and how to submit comments to the BLM. This will be followed by an interactive public workshop for the public to share their perspectives with a task force to be appointed by the governor.

This year $106,096 was raised by participating nonprofits during the campaign window of July 1 to Sept. 23. Also, 31 contributors donated $50,000 for the match. Foundation 23 gave out the fundraising checks in a recognition program during the event.

The organization raised $5.5 million in grants and donations for the critical access hospital and new long-term care facility over the course of only 15 days. The figures were announced by Kari DeWitt, Sublette County Health Foundation director, to the Sublette County Hospital District (SCHD) Board of Trustees on Oct. 25.

Participating artists are Dan Abernathy, Cristy Anspach, Alise Watson, Holland Dutton, Sue Sommers, Robin Sruoginis, JB Bond, Jenny Dowd, Favian Hernandez, Bronwyn Minton, Rita Mata, Mona Monrose, Jocelyn Slack, Jennifer Hoffman and Camellia El-Antabley.

Sublette County service organizations have planned activities throughout the area to honor veterans and their service to the United States military this week.
