Business owners funnel tourist dollars into local nonprofits

Posted

PINEDALE — Two nonprofit organizations in Sublette County are benefiting from the proceeds of a successful 2023 tourist season thanks to local lodging owners Sofia and Forest Wakefield. The Wakefields own Log Cabin Motel and Gannett Peak Lodge and have made a tradition of giving back $1.00 per occupied room or cabin to a local nonprofit at the end of every season.

This year, the Wakefields selected Friends of PAC and the Sublette Trails Association. The donated funds were stretched further after being funneled through Foundation 23, a local group that maintains a pool of matching funds to help nonprofits maximize fundraising efforts and reach their goals sooner.

Thanks to the generosity of the Wakefields, their guests and Foundation 23, Friends of PAC and Sublette Trails Association each received a check for $1,500.

Friends of PAC, a registered 501(c)3, supports the numerous programs and services provided by the Pinedale Aquatic Center, including the Duck Derbies, Midnight on the Mesa and the Frosty 5K — coming up on Dec. 23.

The Sublette Trails Association, also a 501(c)3, works to improve, maintain and develop sustainable multi-use trail networks throughout the county.
