After four years on the market, White Pine Ski Resort just north of Pinedale has been sold to billionaire Joe Ricketts by longtime owners Alan and Robyn Blackburn. The news was announced on Thursday, Feb. 22, with Ricketts taking ownership of the 363-acre property in April at the end of the 2024 Ski Season.

The Board of Sublette County Commissioners ran through a busy agenda at the regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 20.

As reported by the Pinedale Roundup last month, Ray was terminated by the Sublette County Hospital District (SCHD) on Jan. 15. “There was a complaint lodged with the district the weekend before last weekend, a complaint of a very serious nature,” SCHD board chair Tonia Hoffman said at the time. “The claims were investigated internally and substantiated.” Ray’s termination was based on that complaint. Hoffman declined to comment following the news of Ray’s suspended license, stating in a Feb. 20 email, “As he is not presently our employee, it’s no longer in my purview.” With the WYBOM filing, more information has been made public than what any SCHD representative could say on the record. The Sublette County community is mourning the loss of one of its own after resident Shane Copeland, 31, was killed in a Feb. 16 crash that involved two vehicles, a Ford F-550 pickup truck and a Wyoming Department of Transportation 2014 Mack plow truck.

Aylen Mills, Paxton Loveday and Naomi Gaffney will be recognized for their essays, with Mills moving on to compete against the other Wyoming chapters for a chance in the Regional and National competitions.

The 39th Aniel Daniel Chili Cook-off is right around the corner, planned for Saturday, Feb. 24 at the Daniel Community Center, 18 Schoolhouse Lane in Daniel. Sublette County residents are encouraged to break out their recipes, famous or not, and enter their best red and green chilis or desserts.

A 12-page document filed by the WYBOM and obtained today by the Pinedale Roundup summarizes the case, findings of facts and reasons for the suspension, with the board of seven concluding after a recent special meeting that “public health, safety and welfare imperatively requires emergency action in this matter.”

The Springman Ranch west of Big Piney, Wyoming, has been in the Springman family for 100 years. On Sept. 10, 1894, Frank Springman received his citizenship papers. Frank filed on 640 acres along Middle Piney in 1898 on what is known as the Joe Budd Place in 2024.

As a family practice doctor, Wortham cares for patients at every stage of life, providing services from well-baby checks and school and DOT physicals to geriatric care, and everything in between. In addition to his duties at the clinic, Dr. Wortham will also provide care to the residents of the Sublette Center.

Where a driver usually uses eight loads of the sand-salt mix, this time it took just one load of salt, he said. There will be “a learning curve” for drivers to fine-tune how much is needed.

Volunteers and the agencies involved have made quite a push to make the winter carnival happen this year amid unseasonably warm days with little snow accumulation. Main Street Pinedale Managing Director Kaddy Fyfe-Shivers said, “The lack of snow and the melting of the available snow the last couple of weeks has made it very difficult to pull enough snow together for the Winter Carnival.” She noted that between “the town public works crew and the county boys, we have had to do some relocation and scaling of snow to get enough to have the events this weekend.”

The Rees Triangle 5 Ranch west of Big Piney, Wyoming, has been in the Rees family since 1897. Daniel O. Roberson, who homesteaded on the Green River at the mouth of Fontenelle Creek in 1897, was Charles F. Roberson’s first cousin. Charles Roberson bought the place from his cousin Daniel and Charles and his wife, Emma, were living on Fontenelle Creek in 1900.

Friends of the Bridger-Teton, along with the U.S. Forest Service Pinedale Ranger District, turned the old trunk into wooden “cookies” using chainsaws. The slabs of wood were then provided to 18 area artists who took the assignment and ran with it.

The dining room was filled and head cook Chiaretta Johnson confided that she prepared shepherd’s pie to feed 200, including a vegetarian version. Diners quickly got in line for salad, rolls and a long, long row of Dutch oven desserts and desserts brought by local bakers – with a little ice cream on top – inspired by Dr. Bob Beiermann.
