It’s so easy to be distracted over the holidays and forget about resolutions to make comments and provide relevant input on some of the big projects under way that affect Sublette County and western Wyoming.

This year, Michael Henn, Sublette County Conservation District manager, was recognized as the WACD Outstanding District Employee of the Year. The SCCD Board of Supervisors nominated Michael as they believe his role in the advancement of conservation in Sublette County has been extraordinary. The next paragraphs are from the nomination letter.

The large turnout was a testament to the deep need people across all spectrums feel to connect, educate and share their frustrations, advice and comfort. There were law enforcement officers, elected county officials and their department heads, doctors and nurses, teachers, parents, mental health counselors and ordinary people with something to say. Many just listened.

Rose Oleyar told councilmembers Jeff McCormick, Roger McMannis, BJ Meador and Karen Wenz and Mayor Jim Robinson that she bought vacant property south of the town’s Flicks ‘N Pins bowling alley and movie theater, which is in its residential R-2 zone. She explained that she would like to open a beauty shop and asked for the council’s approval for a zone change for her property

The Dell Creek Feedground is in Hoback Basin and Sublette County, about 4 miles east of Highway 191 on Dell Creek Road. It extends 35 acres from flat sagebrush up into Riling Draw along the hillsides

The governor, Wyoming Superintendent of Public Instruction Magen Degenfelder and representatives of the Wyoming Department of Education, along with House District 20 Rep. Albert Sommers traveled to PES to congratulate the students for reading a combined 1,291 books between June 5 and Aug. 18 during the inaugural Wyoming Governor’s Summer Reading Challenge.

In the Pinedale Field Office area, the following areas will be closed:

The Mountain Man Christmas Parade kicked off the holiday season in Pinedale on Saturday, Dec. 9, with nearly two dozen festive floats and brilliant light displays dazzling spectators gathered along Pine Street.

The one planned for Sublette County – which has a dearth of behavioral health practitioners – takes place on Friday, Dec. 15, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in the Pinedale Library’s Lovatt Room.

The first call went out around 5 p.m. regarding a semi-trailer hauling potatoes with its rear tires on fire at the Duck Creek turnout off Highway 191 about 5 miles northwest of Pinedale, according to fire SCUF public information officer Mike Petty. Other drivers alerted the semi driver, who pulled just off the road at the Duck Creek pullout, where bystanders used fire extinguishers to keep the initial fire from spreading until Pinedale Battalions 1 and Daniel 5 arrived to extinguish the fire with hoses, Petty said.

Following the parade, folks gathered at Centennial Park on the corner of Budd Avenue and Nicholas Street for the traditional community lighting of the town’s Christmas tree, facilitated by Mayor Shane Voss.

Earlier in 2013, FWS had proposed the North American wolverine’s listing in the contiguous United States and in 2020, reevaluated the wolverine’s ESA listing status as unwarranted. However, in 2022 a Montana district court judge ordered FWS to vacate that decision and reconsider the North American wolverine’s status.

Volunteers should call the Pinedale BLM Field Office by Thursday, Jan. 4, to be assigned survey routes along public roads in Sublette County. Volunteers will receive instructions on survey methods and eagle identification. Two-person observation teams are needed so that one person can safely drive while the other observes and documents eagles.

New planning and zoning (P&Z) regulations have been in the works for more than a year with the county’s P&Z commission, county planner Dennis Fornstrom and several stakeholders holding sparsely attended public meetings.

More than 100 pairs of boots shared with the students were accompanied by critical conversations that likely would have never happened outside of the dedicated “boot check moment.”

With 26 days left until Christmas, Santa’s elves are busy with preparations and so too are the staff and volunteers of numerous organizations in Sublette County.

Melinkovich said Sheriff KC Lehr is making an agreement with Wyoming Department of Corrections for the Sublette County Detention Center to house overflow inmates as needed, for $70 per day. The state agency would make the payments. He and Lehr worked through the contract to avoid any liability or unexpected costs, such as medical or payroll.
