Stephanie’s hanging baskets (made from coco coir and lined with burlap to hold moisture) on the fence are artfully designed with color, shape and texture in mind, using various colors of alyssum, verbena, calibrachoa, bacopa and creeping Jenny to fill the baskets. They are on a timed drip system and are fed plant nutrients every week. Their beautiful home is accented with hanging baskets of red ivy geraniums and sweet potato vines. The rest of the yard is filled with a huge variety of shrubs and trees.

Although Cooper and LeeAnn Shelton started their gardening adventures in Sublette County only a year ago, they have sparked the curiosity of many travelers going to Jackson with the glowing green lights emanating from their large greenhouse near the Rim Station on Highway 191 in the dark of winter. A large group of Sage and Snow Garden Club members took a field trip to the greenhouse last week and honored the new gardeners with its prestigious Garden of Beauty Award. The 42- by 120-foot greenhouse may be the largest in Sublette County, and although it is fully automated with its computer-controlled lighting, heating, irrigating and fertilizing systems, it is a full-time job for Cooper and LeeAnn to plant, monitor and harvest the hundreds of plants growing indoors. Salad greens and herbs are grown hydroponically in rock wool fiber pods nested in pop-out rails with a circulating water/fertilizer solution.

The FFF board set three goals when it hosted its inaugural fly-fishing tournament in 2017. First and foremost is to raise funds for the nonprofit’s cause. All proceeds go directly to support the organization’s mission to help “families fighting cancer, people with special needs and children with chronic illness.” The second goal was to host a total of 23 teams competing in the tournament in honor of Sublette County – County 23. The limited entry event is now capped at 23 teams. The final goal consisted of creating a fly-fishing tournament “like no other.” Avid fishermen and women participate in two days of epic, guided fly fishing in spectacular rivers and streams across Sublette County and around LaBarge. In 2023, Fishing for the Fight met and surpassed each of its original objectives set in 2017.
