Special art exhibit on display at Museum of the Mountain Man

PINEDALE — In partnership with art collector Tim Peterson, the Museum of the Mountain Man is hosting a special exhibit featuring the original contemporary art of the mountain men for the 2024 season. The exhibit, One With the Land: The Mountain Mans Journey Into the Unknown, includes over 70 pieces of artwork from at least 35 artists, each depicting historic mountain men on the landscapes they explored and lived.

From an era with no photography, Alfred Jacob Miller in 1837, was the only artist to visit and capture images of these men in their natural environment.  Since that time, generations of artists have strived to depict these men in their world. The One With the Land exhibit features the latest generation of artists who use research, living history and field trips to visually recreate these historic men and their environments. Artists whose works are featured in the exhibit include Paul Calle, Charles Fritz, David Wright, Frank McCarthy, James Bama, Ken Riley, Lee Teter, Michael Coleman, William Ahrendt and dozens of other contemporary artists.

All art in the exhibit is on loan from the Peterson Family Collection and will be displayed locally at the museum from May through October this year.

The museum opened for the season on May 1. The facility is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through October 31. Admission is $10 for folks aged 13 and older, $8 for seniors aged 60 and older, and free for children aged 0 to 12 years old.
