LARAMIE – Athletes on the Sublette County combined boys’ swim team confidently dove into the postseason with solid performances at the 3A State Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by Laramie on Feb. 16-17.
Friday featured preliminary races with the top 12 in both individual events and relays advancing to the finals on Saturday.
Shaving more than 2 seconds off its preliminary time, the 200-freestyle relay team garnered ninth place in the finals. Freshman Jared Hacklin, sophomore Kaden Day, senior John Ruby and senior Andy DeClue clocked the race in at 1 minute, 40.42 seconds.
Sublette County achieved ninth place in the 400-freestyle relay finals, with freshman Gavin Bohnet, Day, John Ruby and DeClue timing in at 3:44. The team improved from its preliminary time by 3.92 seconds.
Rounding out relay finals, the 200-medley team – sophomore Scotty Ring, junior Calleb Willson, Hacklin and freshman Carson Ruby – finished 12th and posted a time of 2:02.38.
In finals for individual events, DeClue took 11th place in the 100-butterfly, hitting the finish line in 1:01.19. The senior earned 12th place in the 200-freestyle finals at 2:03.63.
Preliminary results included a 17th-place finish by Day in the 200-individual medley at 2:21.42. Day also took 15th place in the 100-butterfly at 1:02.64.
Hacklin placed 26th in the 50-freestyle prelims at 25.63 seconds.
Clocking the 100-freestyle prelims in at 54.81 seconds, John Ruby placed 17th in the event.
Willson came in 21st place in the 100-breaststroke prelims at 1:18.60.
