STAR VALLEY – Wyoming’s unpredictable spring weather cooperated for Star Valley High School to host the first Dave Draney Memorial Meet in several years on Thursday, April 17.

Both the Pinedale High School Lady Wranglers and Wranglers filled their bags with medals and new personal records at the invitational.

The Lady Wranglers took sixth place as a team with 62 points. A younger, smaller Wrangler boys’ team placed ninth with 12 points.

Senior Katyana Dexter won the girls’ throwing events by overwhelming margins over her rivals. Hitting a mark of 42 feet, 3 inches in the shot put, Dexter garnered gold and beat the runner-up, Mountain View’s Kate Walker, by six feet.

In the discus, Dexter snagged first place with a mark of 140-11, more than 16 feet further than the best mark of the second-place finisher, Jackson’s Sienna Anderson.

Junior Madison Antonino left the competition for the girls’3200-meters in the dust. Antonino captured first place in the event with a time of 11 minutes, 25.44 seconds, crossing the finish line more than 1 minute, 10 seconds ahead of the runner-up, Gracie Visser, of Star Valley.

The Wranglers and Lady Wranglers host the annual Mountain Man Invitational in Pinedale on Friday, April 26. The first events are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.

Top eight – girls

Junior Isabelle Rigo snapped up second place in the pole vault, hitting a mark of 8-00. Fellow junior Matazi Landers placed seventh in the event at 6-06.

In the 400-meters, two Lady Wranglers advanced to the top eight. Freshman Bethany Vrska led the pack in sixth place, timing in at 1:07.88, with Rigo in seventh at 1:08.58.

Junior Mae McGuire achieved fourth place in the 300-meter hurdles, clocking in at 53.22 seconds. Sophomore McKinzie Mortensen took seventh place in the event at 54.66 seconds.

Timing the 100-meter hurdles in at 18.78 seconds, junior Candice Goodrich placed eighth.

Relay highlights included a fourth-place finish by Goodrich, Landers, Mortensen and Vrska in the 4x400-meters with a time of 4:47.47.

Goodrich, senior Anna Lehr, McGuire and junior Claire Thonhoff secured fifth place in the 4x100-relay at 55.85 seconds.

Top eight – boys

Representing Pinedale in the 4x100-meter relay, sophomore Cale Dauwen, sophomore Sergio Duarte Villa, freshman Reed Morningstar and junior Ian Obod snagged fourth place at 47.72 seconds.

The 4x400-meter relay team – sophomore Brayson Boyer, Dauwen, Morningstar and junior James Tolson – secured fifth place with a time of 3:50.45.

In the triple jump, sophomore Boeh Gamble captured seventh place, hitting a mark of 37-09 ½, with Boyer in eighth place at 37-09 ½.

Additional girls’ top 20

• 100-meters: Lehr in 19th place at 14.12 seconds.

• 200-meters: McGuire in 10th place at 29.38 seconds, Lehr in 12th at 29.59, Rigo in 17th at 30.12 and Chyauna Dodge in 19th at 30.18.

• 400-meters: Roxanne Melinkovich in ninth place at 1:10.23.

• 800-meters: Landers in 12th place at 2:52.25.

• 100-hurdles: McGuire in 11th place at 19.64 seconds.

• 300-hurdles: Goodrich in 13th place at 58.29 seconds.

• Long jump: Vrska in 16th place at 14-01 ½.

Additional boys’ top 20

• 100-meters: Dauwen in 17th place at 12.15 seconds and Obod in 19th at 12.30.

• 200-meters: Dauwen in 17th place at 25.11 seconds.

• 400-meters: Morningstar in ninth place at 57.17 seconds, Tolson in 10th at 57.54 and Gamble in 17th at 1:00.49.

• 3200-meters: Michael Casebolt in 12th place at 12:46.16.

• High jump: Caleb Parks in 15th place at 5-00.

• Long jump: Boyer in 17th place at 17-05 and Morningstar in 19th at 17-03 ¾.
