The two-day tournament, hosted by Lander and Wyoming Indian high schools, pitted the Lady Punchers against other 2A teams from the Northwest that Big Piney will likely play again in the postseason, along with 3A non-conference team Lander.

“I thought it was a well-played, physical game on both sides,” said Coach Moffat. “It was fun to coach 11-man defense and I was proud of the kids for not giving up a touchdown. We wanted to make a statement by playing up and competing for the Sublette County trophy. This was a good prep week I feel for both squads. Pinedale is definitely on the rise!”

The boys’ varsity squad snapped up third place overall with a cumulative tally of 682 strokes following two days of competition. Pinedale beat out Green River, Kemmerer, Lyman, Rock Springs and Star Valley.

The two-day event, hosted by the Pinedale Lions Club and Lakeside Lodge, consisted of four races – three on Saturday and one on Sunday. Organizers typically run two races on Sunday, but due to a light and variable wind on Sunday afternoon, the contestants were unable to complete the fifth race, said event organizer Jason Essington.

Nine athletes represented the Pinedale High School Wranglers and Lady Wranglers at the event hosted by Valli Vu Golf Course in Afton.

Pinedale High School graduate Sara Kunard represented Sublette County at the 2023 Wyoming Coaches All-Stars girls’ basketball game at Casper College on Saturday, July 22.

The Sublette Softball League organizes games throughout the summer between local teams on Monday nights at 7 and 8 p.m. at Dudley Key Sports Complex. Softball teams duel for the season trophy at the league’s final tournament in August.

The slack rodeo lasts all day on Friday and determines the top-10 finalists to compete in each of the timed events for the Rendezvous Rodeo on Saturday.

The project is anticipated to be completed by Aug. 4. SCSD1 trustees approved the project in December. The total price tag to replace the old turf and install a new layer is $667,158, plus a $21,000 maintenance agreement, said McAdams. Funds were earmarked for the project in the budget for the upcoming fiscal year that will be presented to trustees on July 19, he added.

A group of athletes put Sublette County on the map at USA Weightlifting’s Youth and Junior Nationals in Colorado Springs from June 24-July 2 – the prestigious season-culminating event for Olympic weightlifters.

Athletes from both Pinedale and Big Piney-Marbleton proudly represented their communities at the tournament.

This article has been updated to reflect the fact that the Pinedale Senior Little League team secured the necessary donations to travel to the West Regional Little League Tourney in Oakland, Calif., from July 19-26. The team will leave town from the Wrangler parking lot on Tuesday, July 18 at 4 p.m. The group will receive a police and fire escort on their way out of Pinedale. The Pinedale Senior Little League team plays first on Friday, July 21, beginning at 10 a.m., against the Washington state winner, of Federal Way, Wash., a community of 100,000 people.

Pinedale High School alumna Isabella Romasko, Class of 2021, snagged 2023 Second-Team All-Patriot League honors for women’s outdoor track and field as a sophomore and Midshipman on the track team at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.

From late October to mid-March, Huffman plays up to four games each weekend across the state and region as a center for the Jackson Moose 12U “A” team, affiliated with the Wyoming Amateur Hockey League (WAHL) and USA Hockey. While most young hockey players take a break for the holidays, Huffman is back on the ice playing for WAHL’s Team Wyoming, battling opponents at regional tournaments over Halloween, Thanksgiving, New Years and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Pinedale High School Junior Brody Hamby was a defining force in the Wrangler soccer season, so it is fitting that the goalie be named 2023 3A West All-Conference honors for his efforts. Hamby posted 148 saves during the course of the season, according to Wyopreps, making it the second-highest record in the entire 3A Conference statewide.

Coaches and administrators recognized talented Lady Wrangler and Wrangler athletes for their achievements on and off the court or field.

The Pinedale girls’ team fielded 11 athletes and finished eighth as a team with 46.5 points. Senior Noah Sletten represented the Wrangler boys at State this year, posting points for the team in the pole vault.
