SUBLETTE COUNTY – Now that the entire county plus LaBarge will vote for one single Wyoming House District No. 20 candidate, it’s time to announce that contested primary and others filed by the May 27 deadline.

Local politics have great, if not the largest, influence over our lives from economic to educational issues.

The Sublette County Primary Election takes place on Tuesday, Aug. 16, and voters must bring government-issued photo ID. The last day to register to vote in the primary will be Monday, Aug. 1, and voter registration is allowed at the polls on election day.

Candidates filed

Incumbent Wyoming Rep. Albert Sommers of Pinedale, House District No. 20, announced his bid for reelection. He is being challenged by Bill Winney of Bondurant and Michael D. Schmid of LaBarge. All three are Republicans.

For the state’s field of elected positions, some incumbents are unchallenged and others have one or more challengers.

Republican Gov. Mark Gordon is running against fellow GOP candidates Brent Bien of Sheridan, James Scott Quick of Douglas and Rex Rammell of Rock Springs.

He has two Democratic challengers, Rex Wilde of Cheyenne and Theresa A. Livingston of Worland.

Secretary of State Ed Buchanan, Republican, opted to not run again. GOP candidates are Chuck Gray of Casper, Sen. Dan Dockstader of Afton, Mark Armstrong of Centennial and Sen. Tara Nethercott of Cheyenne. No Democrats filed for this primary race.

Incumbent Republican State Auditor Kristi Racines is running unchallenged.

GOP State Treasurer Curt Meier of Cheyenne is challenged by fellow Republican Bill Gallop of Cheyenne.

Appointed Superintendent of Public Instruction Brian Schroeder of Cheyenne faces a crowded field with GOP challengers Jennifer Zerba of Casper, Megan Degenfelder of Laramie, Robert J. White III of Rock Springs and Thomas Kelly of Sheridan.

Democratic candidate Sergio A. Maldonado of Lander filed for the primary election.

The most crowded contest, though, is for incumbent U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney’s congressional seat. Republicans vying against Cheney of Wilson are Anthony Bouchard of Cheyenne, Denton Knapp of Gillette, Harriet Hageman of Cheyenne and Robyn M. Belinskey of Sheridan.

The Democratic primary ticket is also challenged with Lynnette Greybull of Fort Washakie, Meghan R. Jensen of Rock Springs and Steve Helling of Casper.

The interested public can review every candidates’ required filing of financial campaign reports between Aug. 2 and Aug. 9 with amendments posted by Aug. 26 at the county clerk’s office, www.sublettewyo.com, or on the Wyoming Secretary of State’s website, sos.wyo.gov.
