Pinedale STAmpede arriving Jan. 27

SUBLETTE COUNTY – Although it might be difficult to cross-country ski, much less race, with a boombox perched on a skier’s shoulder, someone just might have to try it for the Pinedale STAmpede’s costume party during the annual Nordic races.

The Sublette Trails Association has taken over organizing the sixth annual event with local sponsors and for the first time, this race is part of a new timed Nordic race series – the Wydaho Nordic Ski Series.

It’s being labeled as “Pinedale’s only timed intergenerational Nordic ski race” and although the actual racers compete on Saturday, Jan. 27, registrants will be able to inspect the course all day on Friday, Jan. 26. The course will be set up next to White Pine Ski Resort.

Friday evening, participants will check in, 5-8 p.m., at the Pinedale Aquatic Center and walk-on racers can also register then.

Saturday, racers will check in at White Pine’s Nordic building from 8-8:45 a.m. and first races begin at 9:30 a.m., into the 20K and 10K Classic and 20K and 10K Freestyle. At 9:45 a.m., the 5K Freestyle begins and at 10 a.m. is the 2.5K Freestyle Kids’ Race.

As for the earlier boombox reference – this year’s Costume Party Lap theme at 11 a.m. is “90s hip hop.” Costume Partyers will be in the 2.5K or 5K races and all racers registered for another event can make the party lap for free. Awards here are for best costumes, not fastest times.

All awards will be presented at the 3 p.m. ceremony upstairs at Lakeside Lodge.

People are already signing up for distance races and the costume party – for more information, visit  and click on www.sublettetrails.org.
