Helmsley Trust funds Sublette CAH radiology equipment

PINEDALE – The Helmsley Charitable Trust has awarded a $955,096 grant to the Sublette County Health Foundation to purchase new 3D mammography equipment, a CT scanner and x-ray machine. At the moment, Sublette County remains the only county in the state of Wyoming without a hospital and is located 80 to 100 miles from the nearest mammography service.
Construction of a new critical access hospital (CAH) with an attached 50-bed skilled nursing and memory care facility is underway. Now, thanks to the Helmsley Charitable Trust, this new facility will feature state-of-the-art diagnostic and radiology equipment.
“We are grateful for this equipment to provide necessary services in our rural area and keep our patients off the road,” said Kayla Bowers, director of radiology for the Sublette County Hospital District.

The Leona M. & Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust is a global philanthropy committed to helping people live better lives today and creating stronger, healthier futures for individuals and communities. Helmsley’s Rural Healthcare Program invests in telemedicine, funds programs that increase access to behavioral health services, and supports rural hospitals and emergency medical service providers to ensure they have the best equipment to care for patients.
“A person’s zip code should not determine their access to healthcare services or health outcomes,” said Walter Panzirer, a trustee for Helmsley.
“Helmsley is excited to support the
Sublette County Health Foundation in purchasing new equipment for the first hospital to serve the county, bringing critical services closer to the over 8,500 people that call the area home.”
The Sublette County Health Foundation was formed to strengthen the financial security of the CAH and new Sublette Center, and to support professional, high quality, patient-centered care.
Foundation executive director Kari DeWitt notes, “It’s wonderful to see the Sublette County Health Foundation taking an active role in securing the future of the hospital and prioritizing the well-being of the community. Investments in healthcare infrastructure are crucial for ensuring access to quality medical care for everyone.”
The new Sublette County Critical Access Hospital is expected to open March 2025.
