WYOMING – Gov. Mark Gordon has been elected the next chair of the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission.

Gordon was official nominated during a business session of the commission on May 17 and will succeed current chair, Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt, in October. Gordon was nominated for his leadership and support in the oil and gas sector.

“I look forward to the opportunity to lead the ongoing effort to champion state-led efforts and leadership when it comes to addressing emerging technologies, regulatory issues and resource stewardship, Gov. Gordon said.

The IOGCC is a multi-state government agency that was originally chartered by Congress in 1935. It includes 38 member states and serves as the collective voice of those states on oil and gas issues. The commission works with states, Congress and the environmental community to gather information and viewpoints to assist with developing sound regulatory practices.

In addition to his work with the IOGCC, Gov. Gordon serves as chair of the Wyoming Oil and Gas Compact Commission, which was established in 1951 to regulate oil and gas activity in the state. The state agency is responsible for processing permits, conducting well inspections and managing the underground inject control program and orphan well program. The commission oversees responsible development and management of Wyoming’s oil and gas resources and provides appropriate environmental stewardship for Wyoming citizens.
