Friday featured two slalom races while athletes competed in giant slalom on Saturday.

Fortunately, South Pass contained plenty of snow and head coach Holly Thayne described the weather as “great” with “nice conditions” on the course.

“Due to road conditions, every meet has been out of state so far,” head coach Kyle Sullivan said. “While we are hoping that changes soon, so that we can see our in-state competition, it has taken us to some really big and interesting track meets so far.”

Kicking the action off with duals against Lyman on Jan. 30, the Pinedale boys overwhelmed the Eagles, 51-24. The PHS Lady Wranglers won a close dual against the Lyman Lady Eagles, 15-12.

The Punchers ended up taking first place. It was a great performance for our team. We did a great job of competing and wrestling to our best in each and every match. I really liked how well we wrestled on our feet this week. We were heavy in our ties, which helped us to chain attacks and earn takedowns at a high rate this week. We had 28 more takedowns than our opponents this week. That is huge for us and we spend a lot of time working on those first points in the match. I also felt that we did a better job of breaking opponents down and chaining pinning combinations together. The key is to keep working and not stop in our matches. I feel that we still need to improve out wrestling from the bottom. We will continue to work these skills leading into the final week of regular season.

The Wranglers and Lady Wranglers traveled to Hogadon Basin Ski Area near Casper for what head coach Dylan Bear called an “amazing competition” at the Bruce Studer Memorial on Thursday and Friday, Jan. 25-26.

More than 40 high school and youth athletic club teams gathered at the prestigious event, representing the best track athletes from Wyoming, Idaho, Montana and Oregon.

Next up is Conference swim, hosted in Pinedale at the Pinedale Aquatic Center on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 2-3. The Pinedale Wrangler Booster Club is giving out Hawaiian leis to the first 100 people in attendance at this weekend’s swim meet and the public is encouraged to show their support. Conference swim starts at 1 p.m. Friday and 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

The Lady Punchers sealed the deal in the fourth quarter, overcoming their conference rival 50-49, with Green, Whiterock, Strong and Bailey all contributing points for the win.

I really felt that the team performed well with several still out due to illness. We had some young wrestlers step up and compete to the best of their abilities in these two difficult duals.
