The Pinedale volleyball team squared off with the first-place team in the 3A South Quadrant Friday, Lyman.
Every game of the match was tight. The first game was still tied at 19, the second game was even at 26 and the third game was tied at 17. Lyman, however, finished strong in every game to win it in three: 25-22, 28-26 and 25-20.
In the first game, kills from Jaime Streit, Teegan Johnson and Faith Friend kept the contest even. Bailey Schupp then spiked a ball to the court to put Pinedale up, 19-18. Lyman, however, answered with six straight points to win the first game.
In game two, Pinedale fell in a hole early. The Lady Wranglers trailed 7-0 before Haley Boulter got them on the board with a kill. Pinedale then rallied. Friend had multiple kills and later made a diving dig that led to a Streit kill and put Pinedale ahead 18-16. Neither team backed down after that and extra points were needed to determine the winner. Schupp had two kills on game point to keep the game alive, but Lyman eventually got a cross-court kill for the win.
Pinedale started the third game strong and led 9-6. Lyman, however, came back to tie it at 17 and scored seven of the next eight points to pull ahead for the win.
Pinedale is now 8-10 overall and 0-3 in conference games. Lyman leads the South Quadrant with a 3-0 mark and is also 15-3 overall.
Today and tomorrow, Pinedale will be competing at the conference duals in Mountain View.
