PINEDALE – Sunny skies and freshly groomed powder greeted alpine skiers on the Wind River Trail at White Pine Ski Resort for the two-day Pinedale Invitational on Feb. 19 and 20.
Athletes competed in two giant slalom runs on Friday and two slalom runs on Saturday. The times from both runs determined a skier’s overall place.
Sophomore Sydney Wise led the girls’ varsity squad in Friday’s giant slalom race, taking 14th place at 2 minutes, 13.30 seconds. Junior Allison Gregory came in close on Wise’s heels with a 15th-place finish at 2:14.50.
Aubrey Summers, a sophomore, took 24th place at 2:27.36. Junior Alena Mika placed 25th at 1:27.40 and freshman Ana Mika came in 28th at 2:43.18.
In the boys’ varsity giant slalom, senior Walker Wyckoff placed 21st, clocking in at 2:13.93. Fellow senior Michael Vitanza took 23rd place at 2:20.42. Sean Ruckman, a sophomore, came in 25th place at 2:24.48. Junior Nick Boyce finished in 27th place at 1:29.57 and junior Zach Maxam placed 28th at 2:40.61.
Junior Brooklyn Flint represented Pinedale in the girls’ junior varsity division on Friday, taking ninth place at 3:11.73. Junior Brayden Bennett placed 12th in boys’ junior varsity at 2:35.08.
On Saturday, Gregory placed 15th in the girls’ varsity slalom race, timing in at 2:08.18. Wise came in 16th at 2:09.21. Alena Mika took 22nd place, clocking in at 2:23.46. Summers came in 23rd at 2:24.22 and Ana Mika placed 25th at 2:29.09.
Wyckoff placed 23rd in the boys’ varsity division on Saturday at 2:08.47. Vitanza placed 25th at 2:26.28, Boyce came in 26th at 2:31.84 and Maxam finished 27th at 2:38.97.
Bennett took ninth place in boys’ junior varsity at 2:41.25.
