No excuses for Cody Roberts' actions, bar patrons' inaction

Dear Editor,

The widely publicized, shockingly appalling wolf incident that happened here in Sublette County is rightly looked upon by the vast majority of people in Sublette County and Wyoming as horrendously wrong, sad and sickening. It has stained the reputation and put a very ugly smear on our entire state, especially Sublette County.

There was no excuse for such an empty-hearted, cowardly act. The sound of bar patrons laughing at the cruelty which can be heard in the background of several film clips on the internet is haunting! Why no one rose up and stopped the prolonged torment and ridicule of an injured, suffering animal, I will never understand. If it was from some kind of crowd mentality – this one was at record-level- low, and without any feelings or conscience whatsoever. Wolves, like all animals, deserve respect and awe for the magnificent beings that they are. (An old mountain man in Alaska said that when you look into the eyes of a wolf it is like looking into the eyes of a human.)

Wyoming has a long job ahead of us to show the world that this atrocious, shameful thing and how it was handled is not how we are, who we are, or what we want to be. We hate this kind of thing and now we have to cowboy up. We need to “show a little kindness.” We have be thankful for, and worthy stewards of, our wonderful environment and have respect for all the wild animals that we have here. We need to show that we are intelligent and kind enough to deserve to live in our wonderful state, especially Sublette County.

Thank you,
