BIG PINEY – The Big Piney High School Lady Punchers rounded out the regular season hosting Pinedale for the annual cross-county rivalry on Thursday, Feb. 15, followed by an away game against Kemmerer on Feb. 17.

Big Piney came up short against Pinedale, 77-36, and fell to Kemmerer in a physical, defensive matchup, 33-14.

The Lady Punchers will enter the 2A West Regional Tournament this weekend in Riverton as the No. 2 seed and will play Rocky Mountain on Feb. 22 at 3:30 p.m.

On Thursday, Pinedale won the first quarter, 28-6. Big Piney got in a few punches on defense, including a steal by junior Micah Strong.

The Lady Punchers netted nine points in the second quarter to 13 by Pinedale. Juniors Sienna Whiterock and Jolynn Jones both snapped up steals.

The halftime score favored Pinedale, 41-15.

The Lady Wranglers continued to control the scoreboard in the third quarter, although Big Piney achieved several highlight plays. Sophomore Kodee Greene made a block and fellow sophomore Maggie Jones rustled a steal. Lizzy Brandt, also a sophomore, scored on a fastbreak.

A solid Big Piney offense tossed in 13 points in the fourth quarter versus 19 by the Lady Wranglers, culminating in a 3-pointer by Greene.

On Saturday, the Lady Rangers found themselves ahead, 9-2, at the end of the first quarter.

Rallying in the second quarter, Big Piney outscored the Lady Rangers, 7-6. The Lady Punchers’ defense gelled and caused multiple turnovers with five steals. Jolynn Jones posted two steals, with one apiece by Strong, Greene and Whiterock.

In the third quarter, Strong scored on a fastbreak and Greene made a block in the fourth quarter.
