Sublette 4-H members awarded scholarships

PINEDALE — Four Sublette County 4-H members were awarded scholarships through the Wyoming State 4-H Foundation for the upcoming 2024-2025 academic year. Dustin Larsen received the Ella E. Schloredt 1st Year Award in the amount of $1,700, Colin Edwards received the Wyoming 4-H Foundation Scholarship for $1,250, and Wyatt Griffin received the W.D. Whitmire Leadership Award for $1,000. The three seniors at Pinedale High School are all active members of 4-H within the community and competed against applicants from across Wyoming for the scholarships. “It is a huge honor for our recipients to be chosen and awarded their scholarships,” said Tiera Bevilacqua, the University of Wyoming Extension Sublette County 4-H Educator.

Edwards plans to attend Trinity Bible College in Ellendale, N.D. for pastoral ministry and intercultural studies.

Griffen plans to attend Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., as part of the Scholars Honors Program using, in part, funds from the W.D. Whitmire Leadership Scholarship.

Larsen is not yet sure of his future plans, but there’s no doubt the $1,700 toward tuition will help him offset the expense of a higher education.

The Wyoming State 4-H Foundation awarded approximately $31,000 to first-time scholarship winners in 2024. Past winners of the Ella Schloredt award are eligible to continue receiving the scholarship for up to four years, as long as they maintain a grade point average of at least 3.0 and meet academic progress as necessary. The 4-H Foundation awarded 17 continuing scholarships this year, ranging from $1,900 to $2,400.

In total, 4-H youth attending the University of Wyoming or an in-state community college were awarded more than $66,000 in scholarships this year.
