BIG PINEY — The Big Piney Ranger Districts 2024 Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) application period is now open. The organization is looking for a crew of between two and four individuals, ages 16 to 18 years old.

During their time in the Corps, YCC members learn about forest and wildlife sustainability, proper hand tool use, flora recognition and what it takes to be successful in the modern workforce. Crew members can expect to work hard outside with a team while participating in hands-on projects that promote the area’s public lands.

Work can include maintenance on campgrounds and historic cabins, sign installation, trail construction, visitor services and a wide variety of other projects.

The 2024 YCC season will last roughly six weeks, beginning July 1 and running through Aug. 9. Crews report each workday at the Big Piney Ranger Station to work Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Crew members earn $15 an hour and work 40 hours a week.

Applications must be received by the Big Piney Ranger District Office no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, April 5.
