WYOMING – The University of Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team received a No. 14 seed in this year’s NCAA Tournament and will play third-seed UCLA in a first-round game on Monday, March 22. That game is scheduled for an 8 p.m. start and will be broadcast on ESPN.

The Cowgirls (14-9) learned their seeding during the selection show on March 15, five days after winning the Mountain West Tournament Championship and clinching a spot in the tournament field for the second time in school history.

Wyoming previously made the NCAA Tournament in 2008 as an at-large bid.

Wyoming, which had its last three regular-season series canceled because opposing schools underwent COVID-19 quarantine protocols, had not played a game since Feb. 13 before entering the conference tournament on March 7. The Cowgirls then defeated Utah State, 69-41, UNLV, 72-56, Boise State, 53-38, and Fresno State, 59-56, in consecutive days to win the conference tournament. As a No. 7 seed, Wyoming became the lowest seed to ever win the Mountain West Tournament Championship.

Lyman native McKinley Bradshaw leads the Cowgirls by averaging 11.7 points off the bench. Guard Quinn Weidemann averages 11.0 points, Alba Sanchez Ramos averages 10.1 and Dagney Davidsdottir averages 9.1 points per game for the Cowgirls. Born in Powell, Worland native Tommi Olson leads the team with 101 assists and 55 steals, and Casper native Jaye Johnson typically starts for the Cowgirls.

UCLA (16-5) received an at-large bid into this year’s NCAA Tournament after losing to top-seeded Stanford, 75-55, in a Pac-12 Conference Tournament semifinal. The Bruins have played in the last five NCAA Tournaments.
