Wranglers return from State Track with hardware

CASPER – Rain, sleet, wind and cold temperatures kept athletes on their toes at the 2021 3A State Track and Field Meet in Casper on May 20-22. Refusing to let the elements stand in the way of success, the Wranglers and Lady Wranglers returned home from the season finale with plenty of hardware and a new school record.

“State was awesome,” said head coach Eric Oram. “Pinedale athletes were in full force, bringing their personal bests in so many events. Our team did so well and I am extremely proud of their efforts. Thanks Pinedale track for such a great season.”

Senior Riley Dauwen kept up the momentum in the girls’ 400-meter dash, taking third place in a competitive final race on May 22 that came down to hundredths of a second. Dauwen timed the race in at 59.25 seconds, setting a career personal record and shattering the Pinedale High School record set by Sadie Nelson in 2006 at 60.14 seconds.

“Riley had an amazing senior season,” said coach Oram. “She absolutely brought her best the last two weeks and it was so cool to see her run faster and faster times.”

Senior Teagan Bowers capped off a successful season with a State Championship and All-State honors in the boys’ long jump, clearing 21 feet, 7 1/4 inches.

“Teagan had such a great season and a big congrats to him,” Oram said.

Bowers also placed eighth in the triple jump with a leap measured in at 40-01.

In throwing events, senior Carson Gregory and freshman Katyana Dexter broke into the top eight and scored points for Pinedale. Dexter snagged third place in the girls’ discus finals, measured in at 110-03.

Gregory came in seventh place in the boys’ discus finals with a toss clearing 139-08.

“Carson and Katyana both did amazing in the throws and earned state podium spots in their events,” Oram added.

Relay teams performed well in a crowded field. Freshman Mandy Majhanovich, freshman Lauren Jones, senior Grace Davis and Dauwen picked up fourth place in the girls’ 4x400-meter relay finals. The team clocked in at 4:16.87.

The girls’ 1600-meter sprint medley team took seventh place. Senior McKinley Boulter, Davis, Dauwen and Majhanovich finished in 4:30.21.

On the boys’ side, junior James Kervitsky, sophomore Noah Sletten, senior Gatlin Egle and junior Jacob Bain finished seventh in the 1600-meter sprint medley relay at 3:49.37.
