PINEDALE – Gotta get that boom, boom, boom!
Under an orange harvest moon at the brand new Dudley Key Sports Complex, The Boom repeated its 2019 performance and snagged the Sublette Adult Co-ed Softball League Championship.
The top six teams in the league gathered for the final showdown on Monday, Aug. 23. Sublette Communication defeated Sports Team in the first playoff round to advance to the semifinals. Saved 2nd Base knocked ChampionX out of contention on the neighboring field.
Competition heated up in the semifinals as softball fans of all ages filled the stands.
The Boom entered the fray, facing off against Sublette Communication. In a nail-biter, that game came down to a single run, the Boom won the match and a spot in the championship game.
Meanwhile, not Casey, but the Master Batters stepped up to the plate to take on Saved 2nd Base. The Master Batters gave it their all in an upset win over their opponents.
The stage was set for one last game.
Darkness fell and the field lights switched on as the Boom and Master Batters battled for the grand prize. Stee-rike one, stee-rike two and the Master Batters were out after seven closely contested innings.
The Boom took the league championship, trophy and bragging rights for another year.
Despite the occasional, sometimes well-deserved heckling from the peanut gallery, sportsmanship and fun was everywhere evident.
The players out on the field, enjoying one last summer hurrah together proved that life, truly, is a pitch.
