High school students performed for small groups of elementary students during the festivities in “read aloud” sessions. PINEDALE — Pinedale Elementary School (PES) students celebrated literacy with a book festival held Wednesday, May 24, and hosted by freshmen at Pinedale High School (PHS).
Faith Howard, literacy specialist at PHS and Skyline Academy, explained the freshmen undertook a project-based learning exercise in early May by planning the book festival for the elementary school students. Howard and the PHS students partnered with freshman English teacher Whitney Sorenson and the Sublette County Library in Pinedale on the month-long project.
Their goal was for Wednesday’s event to help foster positivity around literacy with their younger peers in the fourth and fifth grades.
