Obituary: Jane Hensyl Johnston

Jane Hensyl Johnston of Pinedale, Wyo., died on April 22.

Jane was born Nov. 9, 1929, in Berwick, Penn., to Dr. William Hensyl and Elizabeth Conner Hensyl.

She attended schools in Berwick, The Knox School in Cooperstown, New York, and Brown University.

She married Dr. Thomas Johnston on June 6, 1953, and they lived in Philadelphia while Tom attended medical school.
They moved to Pinedale in 1958.
Jane liked participating in community activities. She served on the early Fine Arts Council, the Sublette County Library Board, and the Sublette Center Board of Directors. She liked working with children and was a tutor in the after-school program at the elementary school. She was active in the St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church School, served on the Vestry, and was a member of the church for many years. She was also a leader in Camp Fire Girls and Cub Scouts.

Jane enjoyed fishing at their ranch, hiking, pack trips in the mountains, swimming in Fremont Lake, skiing, vegetable gardening, Tai Chi and yoga classes.

Jane’s children include Elizabeth David, Jennifer Johnston, Thomas Johnston and Steven Johnston.

A memorial service will be held in the summer.
