SUBLETTE COUNTY – A man on probation for a March domestic battery charge was in court again Aug. 31 for violating probation terms by drinking alcohol in a Teton County bar.
Justin D. Sims, of Pinedale, was charged with domestic battery of a household member after deputies responded to a physical altercation on March 24, according to court records. On May 3, after reaching a plea agreement, Sims pleaded no contest in Sublette County Circuit Court to domestic battery and Judge Curt Haws sentenced him to 180 days in jail, with one day credit and 179 suspended. The judge sentenced Sims to one year of unsupervised probation with strict terms, records show.
Sims was later charged with driving under the influence of alcohol on June 12, also in Teton County, and Sublette County Attorney Mike Crosson petitioned to revoke Sims’ probation for the domestic battery agreement.
Sims denied violating his probation terms but on Aug. 15, a change-of-plea hearing was set for Aug. 31, records show. Attorney Travis Bing said Sims had obtained a substance abuse evaluation and was attending AA meetings; Crosson said Sims was taking “full accountability” and agreed his probation could be revoked and reimposed. Judge Haws revoked and imposed a new one-year unsupervised probation term to begin Aug. 31.
In a more recent incident on Aug. 19, Kaycee J. McNinch of Big Piney was arrested and charged with battery of a household member, whom she allegedly punched in the eye after becoming angry about the woman moving her backpack, according to court records.
After her Aug. 21 initial appearance in Circuit Court, McNinch was released on $1,500 signature bond and her preliminary appearance is set for Sept. 7 at 11 a.m.
