BIG PINEY — Dylan Foster, an eighth-grade student at Big Piney Middle School, was awarded the first-place winner of the Wyoming District 15 competition of the Peace Poster Contest sponsored by the Pinedale Lions Club.

Dylan’s poster was among more than 450,000 entries submitted worldwide in the annual Lions International Peace Poster Contest. Lions Clubs International sponsors the program to emphasize the importance of world peace to young people everywhere.

“Peace isn’t something you wish for, it is something you make,” the 13-year-old from Big Piney said. The art class of Matt Guenthner submitted 13 art pieces for the local competition. A panel of Lions judged the art for originality, artistic merit and portrayal of the contest theme, “Lead With Compassion.”

Max Lockett, Lions Club president, said, “Dylan and all student competitors exemplify a creative spirit and desire to serve others. It’s our honor to recognize our youth for their artistic talents and participation in this contest.”

Dylan’s poster competed with other Lions Clubs of Wyoming first-place winners within the Lions’ District 15. Dylan’s entry will advance to multiple district and international levels of competition. Lions International will announce the winners by Feb. 1. Gary Roadifer, district governor, has invited Dylan as his guest to attend the 2023 State Lions Convention next June in Cody. The Pinedale Lions Club will cover the family’s travel costs should they attend.

One international grand-prize winner and 23 merit award winners will be selected. The grand prize includes a cash award of $5,000, plus a trip for the winner and two family members to a special award ceremony. The 23 merit award winners will each receive a certificate and a cash award of $500.

Lockett presented Foster with an achievement award and gift certificate for art supplies. Tyler Walker, school principal, presented the other art students with certificates of appreciation.

Students aged 11 to 13 of schools or youth groups qualify to participate in the International Peace Poster Contest. The Pinedale Lions Club looks forward to future community involvement in the annual International Peace Poster Contest.
