SUBLETTE COUNTY – The Sublette County combined boys’ swim team came out on top in two back-to-back meets Jan. 15 and 16. The boys defeated Kemmerer in a duel, 116-61, on Friday, Jan. 15.

The team traveled to compete in the Kemmerer Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 16, and scored 92 points, beating out Lyman with 73 points and the host school at 66 points.

Pinedale sophomore Dillon Boespflug earned the Adam Denton Award when he qualified for State in his eighth, and final, individual event – the 400-meter freestyle.

Senior John Covill of Pinedale earned a spot at State after qualifying in the 100-freestyle and 50-freestyle over the weekend.

Pinedale freshman Andy DeClue added a third event, the 200-freestyle. Big Piney junior J.T. Day qualified in his fifth State event, the 400-meter freestyle.

Boespflug pulled off two wins at Big Piney, sweeping the 200-meter individual medley at 2 minutes, 41.73 seconds and the 400-meter freestyle at 5:18.37.

John Covill took first in the 100-meter freestyle in Big Piney, clocking in at 1:04.84. DeClue won the 200-meter freestyle on Jan. 15 at 2:25.60.

Big Piney sophomore Hampton Jones took top honors in 1-meter diving on Jan. 15, scoring 130.40 points. Junior J.T. Day of Big Piney came in first in diving at Kemmerer on Jan. 16 with 217.35 points.

Relay teams performed well in front of the home crowd at Big Piney. DeClue, John Covill, Day and Jackson Fouras won the 200-meter freestyle relay, finishing in 1:54.24.

Boespflug, John Covill, DeClue and Hunter Scott scored a win in the 400-meter freestyle relay at 4:26.52.

“We had another great weekend with wins in both meets,” said coaches Ron Ruckman and Kursty Day. “Nearly every swimmer swam a personal best in at least one of their events. Some of our younger swimmers were swimming events that they had never swam before, but they rose to the occasion. Our divers competed in their first 11-dive meet (at Kemmerer), which proved to be a challenge for them. We plan to step up our distance in practice over the coming weeks to build endurance and stamina for the future home meet and conference.”
