Acel “Ace” Vern Smith, 68, of Big Piney, passed away at his home Jan. 3, from heart failure. Ace was born Sept. 29, 1951, in Coalville, Utah, to George B. and June (Walker) Smith. Ace graduated from Big Piney High School in 1970 and then did some studying at Utah State University. He married his lifelong sweetheart Jessie Kay Cramer at Bob Oneil’s Place on June 1, 1973. To this union were born a daughter and son Cameo and Austin. Ace and Jessie were later sealed for time and all eternity on Jan. 31, 2015, in the Logan Utah Temple. Ace was a member of Tip Top Search and Rescue and the town basketball team. He served on the Plainview Cemetery Board and the local food basket. He spent the majority of his life’s career as a supervisor in the oil and gas fields of Sublette County and he was a ranch hand at Antelope Run Ranch. He was an Elder and active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In his leisure time, he enjoyed hunting, snowmachining, rock hunting, trapping and rides in the mountains and the desert. He is survived by his daughter, Cameo (Shawn) Langley; son, Austin (Janelle) Smith; sisters, Sandra Milleg and Sonia (Rob) Stone; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Jessie Smith, parents George and June Smith and grandson Bridger Smith. A memorial service will be conducted Friday, Jan. 10, at 11 a.m. at the Southwest Sublette Pioneers Senior Center, 111 Rakestraw Ave. Marbleton.
