Mary Rosanna Martin, 91, passed away peacefully Nov. 23 at her daughter’s home in Pinedale with her family at her side. Mary was born May 11, 1921 to Napoleon Joseph “Paul” and Maria Amerentine Provost Lefort in Garden City, Kan.
As a child, she attended school in Garden City and graduated from Garden City High School. Following high school, she moved to San Francisco with her older sister. There she met her future husband Staff Sergeant Albert Martin of the U.S. Army Air Corps at a USO dance. The two were married Jan. 1, 1944 in Luzerne, Penn. To this union two daughters were born: Diane Catherine and Nancy Gail. Mary was a devoted wife and mother. She was a faithful member of the Catholic Church throughout her life.
After Albert and Mary retired in 1980, they moved to Delray Beach, Fla. There Mary enjoyed playing golf. She was a member of the Ladies Golf Association at Delray Beach Golf Club.
She is survived by her daughter Nancy Gail (James) Shaffer; sisters Phyllis Lefort Geier, Alma Lefort West; brother Leo Lefort; granddaughter Susan Lee (Frank) Ruby and their three children; grandson Jeffery William (Kathy) Garman; one great great granddaughter and multiple nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Albert; daughter Diane Fernbaugh; parents Paul and Maria Lefort; brothers Lou, Peter, Homer, Hap, Ronald, Paul and Louis Lefort; and sister Isabel Lefort Herrman.
A funeral mass was held Nov. 27 at the Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Pinedale. The Funeral Vigil and Rosary were held at the church. Father Peter James Mwaura conducted the services. Memorial contributions in Mary’s name can be made to Our Lady of Peace building fund or Kickin’ Cancer in Sublette County.
