Let RHCD hear your voice

Posted: Thursday, Nov 15th, 2012

First, I extend my congratulations to Kris Roork and Mandy Norris for their election to the Rural Health Care District Board. Iím sure they will use their knowledge of healthcare and their experience in the community to maintain and advance the excellent healthcare that we have come to rely on in Sublette County.

Second, I encourage the citizens of Sublette County to attend board meetings to ensure that you are aware of the issues that will be addressed by the board as they deal with financial challenges and changes within the healthcare system. Itís the best way to make your voice heard and have input into the process. Consider serving on one of the five committees that include members of the community to take a more active part.

I also encourage the public to ask questions so you know the facts. Donít rely on the rumors and misinformation that abounds around the county. For example, in relation to the electronic medical records (EMRs), the process was already underway over a year ago. Implementation of an EMR system is a very complex endeavor that begins with an analysis of the workflow and processes. The next step is the selection of the system that best meets the needs of the staff and providers, placing an order then receiving the system, installing it and finally training all the staff and providers on its use. That takes time. In addition, there was a six-month lag between ordering and receiving the system because facilities across the country are implementing EMRs and there was a backlog in the production, which delayed implementation even further.

The administration of the Sublette County Rural Health Care District and the board members are all more than happy to answer any and all questions that you may have. Contact them and get the facts. Personally, I am going to continue to be very active within the district and will participate on one of the aforementioned committees. I want to use my education and knowledge to support excellent and cost-effective health care in Sublette County.
