Donna Lou Jensen was born on Dec. 15, 1931, to Herman and Alta Jensen in Rock Springs. She was raised on the Boulder Flats with the Richie boys. Being the only girl growing up with a group of boys, she inevitably became a tomboy. She moved to Boulder and met Harold (Shorty) Tatro. Shorty used to come a courtin’ Donna on an old bronc. They were married June 24, 1950.
To this union was born three children, Dexter, Stub and Treena. While raising three kids, she spent an unknown amount of time cooking for dudes, guests and family over stoves, as well as open fires, with a reputation for being an excellent cook.
In 1978, after raising her children, Donna and Shorty moved from the ranch to Big Piney, where they would start a roustabout service.
When her grandsons, Josh and Jory, were children, Donna would come over and they would have water fights. Those were wonderful times. She really did love her grandkids.
Donna lost Shorty in 1984. She stayed in Big Piney, working as a housekeeper until 1985 when she moved to Pinedale to be close to her mother. She moved in with her mother and took care of her until her death.
Donna’s hobbies were rock hunting, fishing, crocheting, crossword puzzles, watching game shows on TV and bingo. She had a love for animals, and always had at least one dog by her side. She lived her life to the fullest.
She was preceded in death by her parents Herman and Alta Jensen, her husband Shorty Tatro, her brother Lyle and her grandson Jory.
A memorial service was held July 12 at Covill Funeral Home in Pinedale. Father Dick Kalber conducted the service. For the complete article see the 07-19-2013 issue.
