Mary Agnes Sanborn

Mary Agnes Sanborn, 94, of Green River, passed away Feb. 18 at the Castle Rock Convalescent Center. She would have been 95 the next day. She was a resident of Green River and Castle Rock Nursing Home since 2005.

She was born on Feb. 19, 1918 in Pinedale, the daughter of the late Thomas Arthur and Helen Adeline McMullin Brosman. Her father was a rancher, and he built the log cabin where she was born. She was the only sibling to graduate from the Rock Springs High School with the class of 1935. Her sisters all graduated from Pinedale High School, and her brothers tended to the ranch from junior high.

She graduated from Barnes Business School in Denver. The school placed her in Washington, D.C. working for the IRS. This is where she met her husband Arthur T. Sanborn, on a blind date. They married two years later on September 30, 1939. He preceded her in death at their home in Vienna, Va. in April of 1990. Mary Agnes worked as a legal secretary for many years with the same attorney, Mr. Marshall. He was a prominent land attorney in Northern Virginia.

Mary Agnes was a member of National Women of Prayer and Monday Morning Prayer Group in Washington, D.C. and Virginia. Her interests included word finds, reading and sewing. She could design drapes and custom make clothing. Mary Agnes had many health recipes and organic formulas she shared with friends and family.

Survivors include daughter Margie Smith and husband Kale of Rock Springs, son Art Sanborn and wife Ellen of Webster, Fla., two sisters, Nellie O’Brien and Kathie Brosman both of Kansas City, Mo., seven grandchildren: Brian Smith and wife Annika of Rock Springs, Darin Smith and wife Alicia of Cheyenne, Cindy Johnson and husband Theros of West Jordan, Utah, Diana Mercer and husband Gentry of Colorado Springs, Colo., Sean Sanborn and wife Anne of Webster, Fla., Calah Sanborn Lee and husband Moon of Germany and David Sanborn of Webster, Fla., 20 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Ruth Brosman Cady, Maybeth Brosman Showers, Alice Brosman Acheson and brothers Walter Brosman and Tom Brosman.

Funeral Services will be held at the Castle Rock Convalescent Center, 1445 Uinta Drive, Green River in the All Purpose Room tomorrow at 1 p.m. with a meal catered by Sands Catering. Friends may call at the convalescent center on Saturday, one hour prior to services.

Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 25 at the Pinedale Cemetery in Pinedale.
