Sublette swimmers dive into the postseason

Sublette swimmers dive into the postseason

PINEDALE – Wyoming high school boysswimming teams commenced the postseason with regional competitions across the state over the previous weekend.

The Sublette County combined boysswim team rose to the occasion as the hosts of the 3A South Conference Swim Meet at the Pinedale Aquatic Center from Feb. 2-3, filling their bag with top-10 places and new personal records.

Conference opened with preliminaries on Friday. The top 12 athletes in individual events advanced to the finals on Saturday while the top six (seven with a tie) relay teams vied for gold on the second day of the meet.

Senior Andy DeClue broke into the top 12 in both the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly in the prelims on Friday. On Saturday, the senior captured fifth place in the butterfly finals, posting a time of 1 minute, 3.42 seconds. DeClue also garnered fifth place in the finals for the 200-freestyle at 2:00.82.

Sophomore Kaden Day snagged fifth place in the 200-yard individual medley finals, clocking in at 2:22.65. Day went on to place sixth in the 100-butterfly, crossing the finish line in 1:04.20.

Clocking the 100-yard freestyle finals in at 54.16 seconds, senior John Ruby placed eighth in the event. Ruby also picked up 12th place in the 50-freestyle finals with a time of 25.22 seconds.

Freshman Lyle Morgan represented Sublette County in the diving finals, placing 12th with a cumulative score of 213.85 points.

In relay finals, Ruby, freshman Jared Hacklin, Day and DeClue earned fifth place in the 200-freestyle relay with a time of 1:41.67. The team shaved more than 1.5 seconds from their preliminary time.

Freshman Gabe Scobey, junior Calleb Willson, Hacklin and freshman Carson Ruby captured sixth place in the 200-medley relay, timing in at 2:01.63. The team improved by 3 seconds from their preliminary time.

In the long-distance 400-yard freestyle relay, Day, freshman Gavin Bohnet, John Ruby and DeClue placed seventh at 3:47.12, more than six seconds faster than their preliminary time.
