Sublette boys’ team swims laps around competition

SUBLETTE COUNTY — The Sublette County combined boys’ swim team packed three meets in three days from Jan. 18-20. The boys held up well,” said Co-Head Coach Cheryl Grossman. Freshmen are coming along strong and (Co-Head) Coach (Kursty) Day and myself are looking at a bright future for our team.”

Gavin Bohnet is creeping closer to qualifying for State in the 50-freestyle and Jarred Hacklin is inching closer to qualifying in the 100-meter butterfly.

Senior swimmers Andy DeClue, John Ruby, Aurick Lilis and Logan Visser were all celebrated at Senior Nights held in Big Piney and Pinedale.

Big Piney Invite

The combined boys’ swim team took on teams from Evanston and Lyman at the Big Piney Invite on Thursday, Jan. 18.

In the 200-meter medley relay, the Sublettes “A” team took second place, with Andy DeClue, Kaden Day, John Ruby and Jared Hacklin posting a combined time of 2:12.82.

In the boys200-meter freestyle race, Bohnet snagged fifth place, finishing in 2:34.76, Joshua Scherbel came in 11th place with a time of 2:55.08, Brayden Losik took 12th with time of 3:01.49, Cactus Chrisman placed 14th with a time of 3:16.92, Lilis finished 15th in 3:24.13, Nolan Orm came in 16th in 3:30.42 and Visser completed the event in 17th place with a time of 4:21.03.

In the boys200-meter individual medley, John Ruby placed fourth in 2:44.65, followed closely by Hacklin in sixth place with a time of 3:07.70.

Sublette swimmers had a solid showing in the boys50-meter freestyle, with DeClue finishing in second place in 28.51, Day in seventh place in 29.90, Carson Ruby in 10th place in 30.86, Wyatt Hyde in 11th in 30.87, Scotty Ring in 13th in 31.01, Gage Scobey in 14th in 33.35, Christan Dennis in 39.70 and Tucker Boyce in 44.57.

Lyle Morgan came in second place in the boys1-meter diving event, with a score of 122.35.

Bohnet completed the boys100-meter butterfly in sixth place with a time of 1:30.74.

In the boys100-meter freestyle, John Ruby came in second in 1:02.94. Losik pulled into 13th place in 1:24.69, followed by Lilis in 14th with a time of 1:27.98, Visser in 15th place in 1:37.24 and Boyce in 16th in 2:04.04.

Ring placed fourth in the boys400-meter freestyle with a time of 6:00.09, followed closely by Carson Ruby in fifth place in 6:14.11, Morgan in sixth place with a time of 6:37.13, Hyde in seventh in 6:39.30 and Calleb Willson in eighth place with a time of 6:43.64.

Sublettes “A” relay team, consisting of Day, Bohnet, Hacklin and Carson Ruby, placed fifth in the boys200-meter freestyle relay with a combined time of 2:06.66.

Scobey finished the boys100-meter backstroke in 1:27.48, earning seventh place. Christian Dennis pulled into 10th place in the boysbackstroke with a time of 1:45.19, followed by Orm in 2:06.43.

Day finished the boys100-meter breaststroke in 1:28.25, putting him in third place. DeClue was close behind with a time of 1:31.38, followed by Hacklin in 1:36.52 and Scherbel in sixth place with a time of 1:42.30.

Sublettes “A” relay team, consisting of John Ruby, Ring, Bohnet and DeClue, completed the boys400-meter freestyle relay in third place with a time of 4:27.64.

The “B” relay team, featuring Carson Ruby, Losik, Hyde and Willson, finished the event in fifth place, with a combined time of 5:29.72.

The “C” relay team, comprised of Visser, Lilis, Chrisman and Orm, finished in sixth place with a combined time of 6:21.14.

Pinedale Triangular

At the Pinedale Triangular on Jan. 19, the Sublette County swimmers took on teams from Kemmerer and Lyman. The team placed second overall, earning 91 points and beating Kemmerer with 78.

The Sublette Relay “A” team of DeClue, Day, John Ruby and Hacklin placed second in the boys200 yard medley relay with a time of 2:02.33. The “B” relay team, comprised of Boyce, Dennis, Lilis and Orm, placed fourth with a time of 3:05.21.

John Ruby took second in the boys200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:15.95. Hyde placed fifth in 2:39.65. Hansen was close behind, placing sixth with a time of 3:15.54, Lilis in seventh in 3:16.58 and Allen with a time of 3:17.93.

Day took third place in the boys200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:25.60. Willson wrapped up the medley in fifth place with a time of 2:50.98. Scobey was close behind in 2:56.01, earning him sixth place. Donaldson pulled into seventh place in 3:00.77.

DeClues time of 25.27 earned him second place in the boys50-yard freestyle. Bohnet placed fifth with a time of 26.79. Hacklin completed the event in seventh place in 27.19. Ring finished the freestyle event in 27.67, followed by Carson Ruby in 27.75. Orm completed the event in 35.75, followed by Dennis in 37.23 and Boyce in 40.85.

In the boys100-yard butterfly, Declue finished in third place with a time of 1:02.96 and Hacklin came in fourth with a time of 1:13.75.

Day finished fourth in the boys100-yard freestyle with a time of 59.10. Bohnet placed sixth with a time of 1:01.03. Carson Ruby pulled into ninth place with a time of 1:06.46, followed by Losik in 1:08.49, Hyde 1:10.85, Chrisman in 1:13.88, Scherbel in 1:14.31, Lilis in 1:18.30 and Orm in 1:26.65.

Dennis placed fourth in the boys500-yard freestyle, completing the event in 8:22.35.

Sublettes Relay “A” team placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle relay, with Carson Ruby, Bohnet, Ring and Hacklin completing the event with a combined time of 1:53.99. The “B” relay team — Willson, Losik, Scobey and Hyde — was close behind, in 2:00.98.

Ring placed second in the boys100-yard backstroke in 1:14.55, followed by John Ruby in third place in 1:14.93. Scobey was close behind his teammates in fourth place with a time of 1:16.27. Donaldson completed the event in 1:24.71, followed by Chrisman in 1:29.84, Losik in 1:35.90Allen in 1:40.08, Hansen 1:48.72 and Boyce in 2:17.57.

Willson pulled into third place with a time of 1:22.95 in the 100 yard backstroke. Scherbel finished in fourth place with a time of 1:33.97.

In the boys400-yard freestyle relay, Sublette Countys “A” team of DeClue, Day, Bohnet and John Ruby placed second in 3:54.51. The “B” team, made up of Hyde, Losik, Donaldson and Willson, finished in fifth with a time of 4:53.34. The “C” and “D” relay teams finished in sixth and seventh place with times of 5:15.08 and 6:09.43, respectively.

Bruce Gresly Invitational

At Saturdays Bruce Gresly Invitational in Lander, Sublette County placed 11th with 21 points, swimming laps around Jackson (14), Worland (6) and Natrona County (2). Other teams competing at the invitational included Lander, Buffalo, Riverton, Evanston, Cody, Green River, Powell, Kemmerer, Rock Springs and Cheyenne South.

DeClue took ninth in the boys200-yard freestyle, timing in at 2:03.29. Ring finished the event in 2:24.91, followed by Willson in 2:37.92

In the boys200-yard individual medley, Day placed 12th with a time of 2:24.19. Reuben Allen finished the event in 3:23.03.

Bohnet completed the boys50-yard freestyle in 27.68. Scobey finished the event in 30.70, followed closely by Losik, with a time of 30.74, Donaldson in 30.93 and Chrisman in 31.61. Lilis finished the 50-yard freestyle in 33.72. Orm completed the event in 34.61, followed by Emmett Hansen in 34.66, Dennis in 35.36 and Boyce in 41.96.

In the boys100-yard butterfly on Jan. 20, Day placed 13th with a time of 1:07.47. Willson finished in 26th place with a time of 1:21:27.

DeClue finished the boys 100-yard freestyle with time of 56.79, followed by John Ruby in 56.98 and Bohnet in 1:01.73. Carson Ruby finished the event with time of 1:05.99. Losik completed the race in 1:09.43, followed by Chrisman in 1:14.41, Scherbel in 1:15.53, Hansen in 1:26.75, Boyce in 1:39.06.

Donaldson completed the boys500-yard freestyle in 27th place, with a time of 7:34.54. Scobey came in 29th with a time of 7:54.09.

Sublette Countys “A” relay team completed the boys200-yard freestyle relay with a combined time of 1:46.84. The “B” team finished the event with a time of 2:04.22. The “C” relay team logged a time of 2:11.08.

Ring finished the boys100-yard backstroke in 1:15.45. Hyde completed the event in 1:21.26, followed by Carson Ruby in 1:23.12, Dennis in 1:32.18 and Orm in 2:01.25.

John Ruby placed 22nd with a time of 1:20.91 in the boys100-yard breaststroke. Scherbel finished the event in 1:32.13. Reuben Allen logged a time of 1:40.36.

Relay Team “A,” comprised of John Ruby, Bohnet, Day and DeClue, finished the boys400-yard freestyle relay in ninth place with a combined time of 3:56.68. Relay Team “B,” featuring Ring, Hyde, Carson Ruby and Willson, finished the event with a time of 4:29.68. The Relay Cteam of Scherbel, Chrisma, Lilis and Donaldson finished the event with a time of 5:05.68. The Relay Dteam, including Orm, Dennis, Allen and Hansen, logged a combined time of 5:47.64.
