Pinedale grapplers stand out at Tournament of Champions

VERNAL, UTAH — High school wrestling standouts from Wyoming, Colorado and Utah converged on Vernal for the highly anticipated 52nd Annual Tournament of Champions on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 5-6. Grapplers from both Pinedale High School teams came prepared, with the girls’ team placing fifth out of 18 teams and the boys’ team snagging seventh out of 34 teams.

Highlights from the weekend’s matches include Jake Hammer taking first place in the 138-pound division, McKinzie Mortensen nabbing first place in the 100-pound weight bracket and Katyana Dexter also snatching up first place in the 235-pound class.

Wrangler boys’ and girls’ wrestlers travel to Green River to compete on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 12-13.
