PHS grapplers win three duals

LYMAN – A busy week for the Pinedale High School (PHS) boys’ and girls’ wrestling teams culminated with three wins in duals over the course of four days.

Kicking the action off with duals against Lyman on Jan. 30, the Pinedale boys overwhelmed the Eagles, 51-24. The PHS Lady Wranglers won a close dual against the Lyman Lady Eagles, 15-12.

On Saturday, Feb. 3, PHS grapplers hosted Green River for duals. The battle between two talented teams came down to the wire, with Pinedale prevailing by 2 points, 41-39.

Individual results for both the Lyman girls’ dual and the Green River duals were not available at press time.

The PHS wrestling team also hosted Rock Springs for a dual on February 6. Results were not available at press time.

Lyman boys’ dual

Lyman won the first two matches by open forfeit before junior Ryan Nutt pinned Jaxon Tillotson 51 seconds into the 126-pound match.

Sophomore Porter Kemp won the ensuing 132-pound match against Cash Platts by an 18-2 technical fall at the beginning of the third period.

Lyman scored six points before Pinedale responded with a five-match winning streak.

Senior Jake Hammer set the momentum for the Wranglers at 144 pounds, pinning Timber VanGieson midway into the second period. Fellow senior Fisher Vance felled Ben Bluemel with 10 seconds remaining in the first period of the 150-pound match.

At 157 pounds, senior Dustin Larsen pinned Zeke Wiscombe at 2:27.

Sophomore Landon Fornstrom defeated Sam Gregory by a 17-3 major decision in the 165-pound division.

Sophomore Cale Dauwen battled Marshall Hatch into the second period and won by fall at 2:58.

Lyman picked up a win before Pinedale capped the evening off with two more victories.

Junior Alejandro Hernandez quickly defeated Preston Maxfield by pin only 36 seconds into the 215-pound match.

Senior Viliami Dexter rounded the dual off by pinning Xachery Aleman with 8 seconds remaining in the second 215-pound match.

The Wranglers and Lady Wranglers host the Pinedale Wrestling Invite on Saturday, Feb. 10, with rounds scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. The Lady Wranglers square off against Natrona County for a dual on Friday, Feb. 9 at 6 p.m.
