Lady Punchers knock out Rangers

KEMMERER — The Big Piney High School Lady Punchers varsity basketball team took on the Kemmerer Lady Rangers in a Conference game on the road on Thursday, Jan. 25, where they came out on top, winning, 50-49. Head Coach Brian Espenscheid said, “It was very exciting to win a game against a good, strong team. This definitely was the team’s best effort of the season so far.”

Sophomore Lizzy Brandt and junior Joelynn Jones each scored 2 points in the first quarter. Sophomore Brylie Bailey netted four points and junior Micah Strong made 6 points to close the first quarter 14-17. Big Piney took the lead in the second quarter, with sophomore Kodee Green sinking 3 points, Sienna Whiterock netting 7, junior Kendra Willoughby making two points and Bailey with 6. Big Piney led, 32-26, heading into the third quarter of the tightly contested game. Kemmerer took back control in the third quarter, although Green tossed in another 3 points and Strong made 4.

Coach Espenscheid added, “They did a very good job of maintaining a very high intensity for the whole game.”
