“Mac-a-doo”
1935-2009
Don Mackie was born July 21, 1935 in Rock Springs, Wyoming to Hazel and Graham Scotty Mackie. He died in Idaho Falls, Idaho on May 31, 2009. Don lived in Hiawatha, Wyoming until attending high school in Rock Springs graduating in 1953. He moved to Big Piney in 1955 and worked for Fish Construction, John Subic, Belco, and Enron before retiring in 1996. He married Pat Ward on November 30, 1957 and in November of 1958 their son Scott was born followed by their daughter Donna born in July of 1960.
Don volunteered with the fire department, search and rescue, was a 4-H leader and a scout leader. He worked with his son Scott in MAC-A-DOO well service. On the side he operated a snow machine business for 25 years. If a young person wanted to race a snow machine Don would fix one up for them. He was a Grandpa figure to many of the young folks in the community. He cooked many years for the 4th of July and Kickin Cancer barbecues as well as the Cowboy Joe Club cookouts at Middle Piney.
Don is survived by his wife Pat; son Scott Mackie and his wife Carol and their children Candace and Nicholas; daughter Donna Reece and her husband Mike and their children Joe and Jamie; and great grandchildren Braden Reece and Skyler, Abby, Gracie and Gus Palmer.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Jean.
A memorial service was held Monday morning June 8th at 10:00 a.m. at the Plainview Cemetery in Big Piney. Father Dick Kalber conducted the service.
